Principles of Engineering

It is my ambition to combine my passion for working with adolescents with my background in engineering to create a highly collaborative classroom environment where each student is motivated and encouraged to grow their potential while learning in mathematics and engineering classrooms.

Teaching is a second career for me, as I began my career in Automotive Packaging. I have always enjoyed mathematics and feel fortunate to work with mathematics and engineering students daily!

I am excited to join the Skyline DTEP magnet teaching Introduction to Engineering Design. I graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Physics in 1996. I have spent the last 20 years teaching physics and mathematics in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Over the years, I have embraced a teaching style focusing on project-based and inquiry-based learning. This melds perfectly with the Project Lead the Way curriculum and values.

I was born into a family of engineers and have a love of all things STEM. I met my husband volunteering for FIRST robotics and we continue to support FIRST through mentoring the Skyline FRT team 3322. We laugh at the fact that we are the type of family who takes our son, Edison, to Legoland, while wearing our matching matching NASA t-shirts.

Mr. Centivany has been teaching for 11 years and Project Lead the Way Engineering for almost 10.  He was teaching outside of Washington D.C. in the great State of Maryland for 8 years but in his words, "has had the great fortune of being able to move back home to Ann Arbor" and now teaches at both Forsythe and Skyline.

Over the years, he has taught four high school engineering courses and three middle school engineering design courses.  He earned a B.A. in Education from Eastern Michigan University and a Master's Degree in Teaching and Learning with Technology from Ashford University.

"Teaching, to me, is about building positive relationships with students, centered around caring, communication and understanding.  Teaching a hands-on project-based curriculum makes everyday at work exciting and enjoyable."
