Principal Weekly News for Semester Courses

  • Week ending October 2, 2020

    Good Evening,

It is the first regular school messenger from me for this term.  I usually send one School Messenger email each week but with the growth of the program and operating without a secretary I have not been able to begin this communication.  Please don’t take this delay not appreciating your importance in our partnership.   We hope to have a new Office Professional in place in the next couple of weeks at the latest.  I will introduce her as soon as we have an official announcement.  Until that time, we do not have anyone answering our phone lines.  Please contact us through email for assistance:

The instructor as listed in PowerSchool or Schoology – questions regarding the content

    A2virtual@aaps.k12.mi.us – General questions

loeb@aaps.k12.mi.us Allan Loeb – Middle School counseling questions or concerns

siewert@aaps.k12.mi.us Claudia Siewert – High School counseling questions or concerns

loeba@aaps.k12.mi.us Anthony Loeb – technical questions

leamanc@aaps.k12.mi.us Cindy Leaman – administrative questions or assistance for concerns not addressed above

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to online learning.   If this is your first experience with us I hope you are enjoying the experience.  Each of our instructors has regular office hours and you are invited to attend if you have any questions related to the class.   This is considered the end of week four for Semester 1. Wow, the time has flown, it is hard to believe that we have been in school for a whole month.

    Wednesday Schoology Communication Check-in:

The Wednesday Schoology Communication is an attendance requirement of the State of Michigan.  We are audited on student participation using this two-way communication.  It is critically important that each student do this activity every Wednesday.    The Wednesday Schoology Communication is open the entire day up until 11:55 pm.  Please help us out by reminding your child to do this the first thing Wednesday morning; it should take less than 5 minutes.  The A2Virtual instructors are required to track down the students who do not do the entry.

    Count Month

Virtual learning has a Count Month, not a count day.  Students are required to complete the Wednesday Schoology Communication Check-in every week.  We cannot excuse any student, district funding is dependent on showing that the two-way communication has occurred each week and we are audited for entries made during the weeks of October 7, 2020, through November 4, 2020.  Thanks for your help with this.

Advanced Placement (AP), Chinese, and select English textbook distribution:

Most of the virtual classes do not have an associated textbook.  The textbook is either embedded within the course or through an e-book link. However, there are a few courses that do require a textbook.  We had an order for those required texts and they are finally in.  The textbook distribution will happen on Monday, October 5, 2020, at Pioneer at the clock tower entrance between noon and 4:00 pm.  An alternative day, by appointment, is Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2020.  Students who are receiving a textbook received an email message from their instructor today.  Questions and textbook requirements are in Schoology and in the course platform.  If you believe you should have a textbook and have a question, please contact your instructor as listed in PowerSchool.

    Parent Note for the week:

The A2Virtual.org website has a tab for parents.  You will find a lot of useful information.  We have a link to the parent online guide and the IEP/504/ATM guidelines.  It is under the parent tab that I place a copy of the weekly School Messenger emails as a blog for future reference.  Another reference is a list and explanation of our policies. While the policies are loaded under the “About” tab and they apply to all students.  I highly recommend that you take some time to look through all the information we have for your benefit on our website.

Students are expected to work a minimum of 5 hours a week per course.   Students should be approximately 22% through each course.  Take a minute this weekend and have your child open their course(s) and show you the teacher information, office hours, pacing guide, and current grade.

We are excited to partner with you and your child(ren) this term. You can expect to receive a weekly email moving forward.  Thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked through our growing pains.  Have a great week,

    Cindy Leaman
