Asian American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month    

 

Born in 1896, Mabel Ping-Hua Lee was an American activist and minister.  She was a leader in the women’s rights movement and campaigned for women’s suffrage; and even led a parade of nearly 10,000 people through New York.  She was the first Chinese woman to earn a PhD. in economics and was director of the First Chinese Baptist Church of New York City.

 

Interact Club                                                          

 

Interact Club will meet TODAY in room C305 to discuss important upcoming events such as an upcoming drive and a volunteering opportunity available to everyone.  We hope to see you all there!

 

Book Club                                                   

 

Book Club has officially finished our first book!  To wind down the rest of the year, we will be reading the first volume of the graphic novel Heartstopper as well as watching the first episode together at our last meeting in honor of upcoming pride month.  Join us today in Ms. Ray's room, A306, for snacks and games while we talk about exactly what should be read by next week.  If you can't make it, that's okay - email Ms. Ray for our Schoology group code where we post weekly updates.  We will discuss what we've read next Friday.  Hope to see you there! 

 

Writing for Mental Health

 

In observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Skyline Writing Center is holding a Writing for Mental Health Workshop TODAY during both lunches in the CUBE.  Anyone and everyone is welcome to come learn about journaling tactics to better improve mental health.  We hope to see you there and happy PROM! 

 

Gardening Club                                                                             

 

I hope you brought work clothes today, because the gardening club is rebuilding our community garden after school, and they could really use your help!  Meet in Ms. Mathewson’s room, A312, after school.

 

ACES & Astronomy                                                          

 

ACES will be meeting next Tuesday, May 23rd, in C317 from 3:00pm - 4:00pm, where we will be hosting Professor Fred Adams from UMICH Astronomy come as a guest speaker.  He will be talking about topics in extrasolar planetary systems and his work life as an astronomer.  We hope to see you there!

Seniors - you MUST clear up all your obligations by June 1st, or you will NOT be given your cap & gown for graduation.  Even if you THINK you’ve turned everything in already, look for an email from the Book Depository, or stop by the Book Depository, to be sure.  

 

Skyline Pom Squad                                                                      

 

The Skyline Pom team will be having tryouts, May 23rd through 25th.  If you are planning to try out, you will need to attend one of the mandatory, family informational meetings - the last one is on Sunday the 21st.  See the posters around the school or contact Coach Carrie at skylinepompon@gmail.com for more information.  The last training session will be TODAY after school.

 

WCC HBCU Day                                                    

 

HBCU is an acronym that stands for Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

 

Are you interested in learning more about HBCUs?  Washtenaw Community College is hosting Washtenaw Historically Black College and University Day on Friday, June 2nd.  Students will experience an immersive HBCU experience, bringing HBCU culture to Washtenaw County!  

 

The day will include:

 

Presentations about WCC HBCU Pathway

Presentations from our HBCU partners (Jackson State University, Central State University, Southern University New Orleans, Mississippi Valley State University, and more)

WCC & HBCU Swag

HBCU marching bands

Divine 9 Fraternity/Sorority Stroll Off

Music, food, giveaways, and much more

High school students will have the opportunity to apply to WCC

 

Skyline is organizing bus travel to this free fun day.

If you haven’t yet picked up your yearbook, make sure you do that during lunch today! 

 

Senior Updates                                                      

Prom is TONIGHT from 8pm until Midnight, with doors closing at 10pm. The field will be open from 8pm to 9pm for you to visit the locker rooms and to go on the field for pictures.  Also remember, there are no heels on the turf!  Once you leave the field, the locker rooms, or the prom itself, there is NO re-entry.   If you bring a guest, they must check in with you at the ticket table.  If you purchase GoFan tickets, do NOT activate the ticket on your phone until the teacher at your check-in table instructs you to do so. Please use your school email and your phone for GoFan - screen shots from other devices will not be used.  Also there are no refunds or transfers on any tickets.  No bags or backpacks are allowed into prom, and all other items will need to be checked into coat check upon arrival. 

 

If you have not submitted your post-high school plans and pictures through the link on the senior class page on Instagram - please get that completed.  Even if you aren't on Instagram, there is a link and QR code in your senior packet to get that info submitted.  The pictures in this submission will also be used for other senior events.  The last date of submission for these pictures is TOMORROW. So if you would like your picture and info included - please submit as soon as possible!
