August 2, 2019 - Lawton Update
Hello Lawton Staff and Families,
I hope that you are well today. We have continued our diligent work since we were in touch last Friday and want to provide an important update for our Lawton staff and families.
Our top priority remains focused on student and staff safety, and as we shared in our message last week, we also understand the importance of strong, caring and stable leadership to the health of a school. These remain our priorities and commitment to our valued Lawton community.
I am pleased to share today that Ms. LeeAnn Dickinson-Kelley will serve as Interim Principal at Lawton Elementary beginning next week.
Ms. Dickinson-Kelley demonstrates long and proven leadership experience in the Ann Arbor Public Schools, having served as:
- an elementary and middle school teacher in both general and special education,
- Principal of Angell and Pittsfield Elementary Schools,
- Executive Director, Elementary Education, and most recently as
- Deputy/Assistant Superintendent of Instruction.
Ms. Dickinson-Kelley is delighted to join Assistant Principal Giles and the Lawton family this fall. We know her vast experience, proven leadership, and genuine caring and commitment to serve our students, staff, parents and community will prove a tremendous support for Lawton at this time. I and my core district leadership team will continue to remain in close support of the Lawton school community to ensure that we have a strong and wonderful start to the 2019-20 school year.
As many have noted in communications this week, we will continue to prioritize student safety and are currently at work developing a comprehensive safety plan, in coordination with school safety professionals and the AAPD, to ensure a safe school environment at all times when we return to school in September.
We will be in touch over the coming days with opportunities for you to stop in to meet Ms. Dickinson-Kelley and to share the Fall, 2019 safety plan. We look forward to engaging together to communicate the safety measures we will have in place and to hear your input and feedback, discussing all the ways we will work together with PTO and parents to ensure a tremendous 2019-20 school year.
Our commitment is always to provide your children with an exceptional learning experience. Lawton has long served as a warm and successful school within a supportive community. As we partner together in preparation for the school year, we will ensure that this wonderful Lawton tradition continues.
We look forward to being back in touch with next steps to meet Ms. Dickinson-Kelley and also to share the 2019-20 safety plan.
Sincerely,
Jeanice K. Swift
