March 6, 2020 - National School Social Worker Recognition

Dear AAPS Colleagues,

We appreciate the opportunity in early March to celebrate our school social workers.  This year’s theme is, "Beacon of Hope: School Social Workers - Lighting the Way.” School social workers light the way in their vital role to help students meet the academic, social, and emotional challenges on the road to becoming successful and productive young adults.

Under the leadership of the School Social Work Association of America, this celebration emphasizes school social work contributions in focusing on the “whole-child” and in linking families to community resources.  School social workers are also a valuable voice as part of the school’s multi-disciplinary team.

Our Ann Arbor Public Schools social workers are on the frontlines every day in the care and support of the emotional well-being of our students.  They look for signs of hurt, pain and joy in order to connect personally with each student. We join with the students, families, and staff across the district as we salute our school social workers for the guidance, expertise and professional care you provide our community.

Thank you, School Social Workers!
