May 6, 2020 - Teacher Appreciation Month

When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me,
'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'

Hello Ann Arbor Public School Teachers,

In times of challenge and adversity, we are reminded even more powerfully of what matters most in our lives. During these weeks of this current challenge, our respect and appreciation continue to grow for the role our teachers fulfill in persevering, overcoming extraordinary obstacles to achieve our critical mission to serve students each day. Teachers, you continue to make a remarkable and profound difference for our students in significant, inspiring ways, despite the many adversities of this COVID-induced distance learning environment.

It is the power of your daily connections, care, compassion and learning with our students that extends strong relationships and builds resilience for children. We are all inspired as you demonstrate that the 'classroom' is much more than a physical location, that connections and learning extend far beyond the physical walls of the school and into the lives of students, their families and our Ann Arbor and global community.

I hope you will enjoy this AAPS Teacher Appreciation 2020 video message celebrating you, our teachers, as a small token of our deepest gratitude. The unmistakable impact of your work extends far beyond today and gives us hope for brighter days ahead.

Thank You, AAPS Teachers,

Jeanice Swift
