October 1, 2021 - Pittsfield Elementary Remote Learning Status
Hello Pittsfield Staff, Families and Community,
We will continue to hold the health and safety of our students and staff, families and community as our highest priority. The purpose of this message is to share a public health update with the Pittsfield Elementary community.
At this time, with current confirmed cases, high levels of student absences, and many students necessarily in quarantine, the Washtenaw County Health Department has advised that the school move to a five day remote learning status, beginning Monday, October 4th, and continuing through Friday, October 8th. During this time, Rec & Ed’s Extended Day Programs (Before/After Care and After School Classes) will also be cancelled.
Thank you to our students and staff who participated in the free COVID-19 testing today at Pittsfield. It’s amazing that we were able to set this up in less than 24 hours! All positive cases have been notified by phone this evening.
COVID-19 Health Update
In the past 3 days, we have been notified of 8 confirmed cases of COVID-19 among our Pittsfield school community. These cases have been related to family and community exposure, with multiple siblings across several classrooms. At the same time, there has been a very high number of student absences -- about 30% of the student body was out of school today, including about 50 who are in quarantine.
Please note that privacy regulations restrict us from sharing identifying/personal information about the individual(s) who have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
While the entire in-school Pittsfield community is on pause, we will continue to monitor confirmed cases of COVID-19. We encourage you to get a COVID test. Please let us know if your student tests positive during this time period. Email School Nurse Emily at maegerleine@aaps.k12.mi.us. If your student(s) are experiencing even mild symptoms, or if someone in your household tests positive, please get your student(s) tested. The WCHD has information about testing locations HERE.
Remote Learning, Food & Technology Distribution
We will share a school update with more information about our remote learning plan and food distribution on Monday, October 4th. As we prepare for the pause, if you are in need of your child’s school issued device, we will have a drive thru Tech Distribution on Monday, October 4th, 12:00-2:00 p.m. and 4:00-6:00 p.m. A staff person will bring the device to you. If you have a home device, you may use that too.
Implementing a temporary pause on in-school gathering among our Pittsfield Elementary School community is a next step mitigation measure to stop the spread of COVID-19 and ensure a healthy and safe return to school.
We will continue to hold the health and safety of our students and staff, families and community as our highest priority, and we look forward to seeing our students and staff back together at school beginning on Monday, October 11, 2021.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support,
Jeanice K. Swift
