October 25, 2021 - A2 STEAM Remote Learning
Special Announcement
Ann Arbor Public Schools
Monday, October 25, 2021
Hello A2STEAM School Community,
The health and safety of students and staff will continue as our top priority in the Ann Arbor Public Schools.
Due to high levels of staff illness and absences at A2STEAM (more than 20% of A2STEAM positions are unfilled today) and staffing challenges across the AAPS, A2STEAM K8 School will move to a day of remote, asynchronous learning for today, Monday, October 25, 2021.
This is an emergency measure made necessary due to numerous unfilled positions and an inability to fully staff A2STEAM school for today. Taking this step to remote learning with this school that is most critically impacted by staffing challenges will allow the AAPS to redeploy some substitute personnel to assist with the shortage of staff across other buildings and stretch the resources to help staff the remaining schools.
To clarify, AAPS team members work very hard to serve our students, particularly during this challenging Fall; we understand that there are times when it will be necessary for team members to access their leave time; this is particularly true during times of seasonal illness, as well as taking the necessary COVID mitigation step of remaining home when one has symptoms.
At A2STEAM, students will move to remote learning for the day; teachers and staff will be in communication to share asynchronous lessons for students via Schoology, school webpage, or email.
We understand that this announcement is coming to you late this morning; we acted promptly as soon as we received information regarding absences today; we apologize for this short notice, and appreciate your support in making this transition.
Our students, teachers, school teams, parents and community are all working incredibly hard together, making sacrifices every day to sustain the opening of our schools this Fall; we are making progress, despite some challenges.
Thank you for your support as we continue to work through the challenges we face together.
Sincerely,
Jeanice K. Swift
