May 5, 2023 - National School Lunch Hero Day

Hello AAPS Community,

Please join me today, Friday, May 5th, in celebrating and sharing our deepest appreciation for our AAPS School Lunch Heroes.

Although we recognize this first Friday in May as School Lunch Hero Day, our AAPS food and nutrition team truly serve as superheroes each and every day throughout the school year. Our team works diligently to prepare and provide children with nutritious meals and snacks each school day across our 32 school locations. By the end of this 2022-2023 school year, they will have served 290,941 breakfasts, 758,994 lunches, 35,000 snacks and 250 dinners totaling more than a million meals, all while keeping the health and safety of our students and staff as their priority.

This impressive food and nutrition team numbers more than 80 participants and is led by Victoria Davis, Director of Food Services. She and her team put heroic efforts and energy into their work to prepare healthy meals for our students, follow strict nutritional standards, navigate food allergies, and all while providing service with a smile.

Their work is about much more than food; it’s about commitment, care and connection. The meals they serve are a critical, consistent support for so many students, especially for children and families who experience food insecurity. These food and nutrition heroes have nurtured relationships with students and families and check in often to ensure that our students have their needs met and to offer additional support as needed. I hope you will enjoy this week’s episode of the A2 Schools Podcast and our conversation with Victoria Davis about this important work.

We salute these school lunch heroes who work hard to achieve our goal of ensuring quality food and nutrition support so our students continue to stay healthy, grow and learn each day.

Thank you, AAPS School Lunch Heroes!
