July 14, 2023 - Superintendent's Update 2023-24 AAPS Calendar

Hello AAPS Community, Ann Arbor Public Schools logo

I hope that your summer 2023 is going well so far; we look forward to welcoming you to the 2023-24 school year in just six weeks, with classes beginning on Monday, August 28th.

We are pleased to share the full detail of the 2023-24 AAPS school year calendar, and are grateful to include ideas and feedback we have received from our students, staff and families. We are also thankful to our employee group leaders and administrative teams who have worked together to attend to the numerous required details of the annual school calendar.

With this 2023-24 school year calendar, the AAPS will prioritize teaching and learning, fulfilling the 180 days totalling 1,098 hours of instruction required by the State of Michigan. In addition, the district observes a common calendar with all Washtenaw County School Districts outlining the days of winter and spring breaks. The AAPS will also achieve requirements for professional development hours for our AAPS team.

The calendar also offers adjustments to provide more consistency in the school year, including common early release days for staff professional development, and also incorporating a fall break.

Of note, following our start back to school on Monday, August 28th, the AAPS will observe the Labor Day weekend with no classes on Friday, September 1st and on Monday, September 4th. The AAPS 2023-24 school year calendar is linked here.

We continue working hard on focused summer preparation work in the AAPS, including robust summer programming, completing approximately 60 building improvement projects across our schools, hiring quality staff, and gearing up for a successful 2023-24 school year.

We are excited to see you soon, and look forward to welcoming you back to our AAPS schools on Monday, August 28th!

Take Good Care,
