**WINTER GIVING TRAIN** PLEASE GIVE TODAY!  (We are 65% of the way to our goal!)

Like every winter, our office staff and social worker, Ms. Hite, work with the school community to support our families in need.  Before the pandemic, our “Giving Train” invited volunteers to shop and buy a gift or donate funds online.  This year, like last, we are making all contributions electronic in order to keep everyone safe!

We conducted a comprehensive needs assessment and found 60 kids in need of winter gear and support this year, and we know we can count on our community to help!  The goal is to provide each child with needed warm winter clothing (e.g. coat, boots, hat, gloves), a book, and a learning item (e.g. puzzle, art supplies, board game, Legos.)   We hope to raise $125 per child, so our goal is $7,625!  We know it’s a lofty goal with a lofty timeline, but we are encouraged by our community’s generosity and recognition that needs are great.

Please consider giving TODAY!  We will in turn shop and get the gifts delivered by mid/late December.  You can count on us to spend money prudently and in accordance with the needs of parents and hopes of children.  We are gathering the sizes, favorite colors, and book preferences from all our kids.  We invite you to get on this Giving Train of warmth and love by giving at whatever level you can.   Please visit today.

These clinics are hosted by MDHHS with AAPS staff there to help manage the flow.

All clinics run 4-7pm in the cafeterias.

  • Nov 30 - Pioneer High School

  • Dec 2 -  Huron High School

All information is also available on the AAPS website:

Please plan your arrival time appropriately and ensure your child is prepared for outdoor recess.   Everyone waits outside until the first bell at 8:10AM.  In AAPS, recess takes place outdoors unless it’s below zero degrees or raining significantly. Classroom thermostats are set during the day between 66°-70°F but windows are sometimes opened during snack time.  Be sure your child has layers and winter gear.

Our names are Krista Takacs and Amy Lawson. We are the coordinators for Washtenaw Elementary Science Olympiad (WESO) at A2 STEAM.   Science Olympiad is an exciting competition where student teams participate in a variety of events involving subjects like engineering, math, biology, electronics, astronomy, programming, chemistry, and more.  Science Olympiad is designed to foster critical thinking, cooperative learning, and the transfer of conceptual knowledge to hands-on challenges.  Science Olympiad is a volunteer-led group.  In order to be successful, we will need parent involvement to act as coaches from February through April, as well as volunteers on the day of the event.  This year, the Science Olympiad competition will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Pioneer High School. WESO has modified the competition and put in place Covid 19 precautions.

An informational meeting on Science Olympiad for parents of 2nd through 5th graders will be held from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm on November 30th via Zoom. The Zoom link is: and the password is 300641. There will be a short presentation followed by a question and answer period.  We would also like to discuss how parents are feeling about participating this year. The meeting is geared towards all parents of 2nd through 5th graders, as there are several changes proposed for this year.

If you are interested in being a coach, but cannot attend the meeting, please e-mail us at and we can discuss the event you are interested in coaching.  WESO will host a meeting for coaches in January 2022, via Zoom.

Please note that student sign-up will not begin until after Winter Break.

If you have additional questions, please contact us at the e-mail address included above.
