Assistive Technology Services
Assistive Technology is available to help students with a variety of disabilities— from cognitive problems to physical impairment. Using technology to enhance learning is an effective approach that proves successful for many children. Additionally, students with learning disabilities often experience greater success when allowed to use their abilities and strengths to work around their challenges (disabilities). Assistive technology tools combine the best of these practices.
Assistive Technology for students with learning disabilities is defined as any device, piece of equipment or system that helps bypass, work around or compensate for their specific learning deficits. Assistive Technology does not cure or eliminate learning disabilities, but helps students reach their potential by allowing them to capitalize on their strengths and bypass areas of difficulty. It compensates for a student’s skill deficit or area of disability.
