Health Insurance

  • Get Health Care Coverage: Washtenaw Health Project
    • The Washtenaw Health Project (WHP) helps people in Washtenaw County get Heathcare Coverage. 
    • WHP can also help you navigate health insurance and public benefits issues, get dental care, help with unpaid bills, transportation and language/cultural barriers.
    • WHP staff speak English, Spanish and Arabic.

Vision Resources and Free Glasses

  • Hope Clinic: Hope Clinic has a Vision Clinic for individuals and families who are uninsured. The Vision Clinic can provide eyeglasses, eye exams and other vision resources. Contact the Hope Clinic for assistance: 734-481-0111 option 5. 
  • RAHS Vision Services at Ypsilanti High School: The Regional Alliance for Health Schools at Ypsilanti High School provides Vision Services (including exams, glasses and more) to any youth 21 years old and younger. Learn more here.
  • Lenscrafters Onesight Program: Individuals with no health insurance (including Medicaid/Medicare) may qualify for a basic exam and free pair of glasses through Lenscrafters (located in Briarwood Mall). Please contact your school social worker or front office staff for a referral.
  • Vouchers for Free glasses and exams through America's Best: The America's Best Vision Centers at Maple Village and Arborland offer vouchers free eyeglasses and exams for eligible individuals (including children). Each location only offers 5 vouchers per month.
    • Maple Village: Offers a free exam and free glasses; children under 13 can get free polycarbonite single-vision lenses. Call and ask for Roxanne to schedule an appointment.
    • Arborland: Offers a voucher program for families in need. Kids 13 and under can get free polycarbonite single-vision lenses. Children under 15 can get 2 pairs of glasses with an exam for $65. A social worker must accompany the family to get a voucher from the Arborland location. Please check in with your school social worker for assistance at this location.
  • New Eyes: Assists low-income individuals in the United States with a basic pair of eyeglasses. A referral from an agency is preferred. Please see the website for details. 

Dental Resources

  • If you or your child have Medicaid, please call 734.544.3079 or email whp@washtenaw.org to learn which dental clinics accept your insurance. See flyer for details. They have staff who speak Arabic, English, French, and Spanish. Phone interpretation is available in most languages.
  • Washtenaw Health Department My Community Dental Center accepts Medicaid for children and adults. One of their branches is located in Ypsilanti. Please call 877-313-6232 or visit mydental.org if you have any questions.
