Middle Years Programme at Huron: 9th - 10th Grade
Huron High School is authorized as a World School by the International Baccalaureate Organization and offers the Middle Years Programme (MYP) to all students in 9th and 10th grade.
What is the MYP all about?
Students and families who want an exceptional educational experience choose the MYP at Huron for grades 9 and 10 including the following features:
- Students enroll in six of eight subject areas in grades 9 and 10. Students are required to enroll in the five following subjects:
- Language and Literature: English language arts
- Language Acquisition: world language
- Individuals and Societies: social studies
- Sciences
- Mathematics
- Then students choose a full year experience (full year course OR two semester courses) from:
- Physical Education and Health
- Design: Career and Technical Education, Project Lead the Way
- Arts: visual and performing
- Student developed inquiries: investigations and explorations of important ideas allowing for a high level of student engagement
- Meaningful teaching and learning that focuses on globally-minded instruction and authentic learning experiences
- Action and Service: opportunities which strengthen student involvement in local, state, national, and global communities
- World language instruction for all students with a choice between Spanish, French, Arabic, German, Latin, and Chinese (Mandarin)
- The Personal Project in 10th grade: A personal and creative culminating project that demonstrates a consolidation of their learning.
