Program Description
During the AAPS Middle School Summer Challenge (MSSC), students will engage in authentic learning experiences that extend their knowledge in literacy and mathematics and develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills. The content of the two-week program is an interdisciplinary series of learning challenges, specifically written for AAPS students currently enrolled in grades 5, 6, & 7. The program will be offered in two, identical two-week (8-day) sessions. Families will select the session that best fits their schedule.
Program Goals
The goal is to provide students with high-quality, culturally responsive learning experiences through interdisciplinary curriculum and social-emotional development that build confidence in academic skill sets needed for the next level of their academic pathway.
Cost: The Middle School Summer Challenge is free for AAPS students.
Location: Classes will take place at Pioneer High School
Dates: Two identical 8-day sessions, Monday - Thursday (exception is Friday, July 7th):
Session A:
July 3-13*
*no classes on July 4th. That day will be replaced with Friday, July 7th
Session B:
July 17-27
Middle School Summer Challenge Enrollment
Two Enrollment Windows
- 1st enrollment window is by invitation (4/13 - 4/28)
Students will be invited to participate in the in-person option of the Middle School Summer Challenge. Invitations are determined using student achievement data. Families of invited students will receive an email with registration information in early April.
- 2nd enrollment window is open to all currently enrolled AAPS MS students (5/1 - 6/16)
Our program will provide a window of time when all currently enrolled students will be able to enroll in the MSSC Program. Registration information will be shared with families by 5/22.
