AAPS Literacy Vision

At Ann Arbor Public Schools, we believe every child is a reader, writer, and thinker with unique strengths and limitless potential. Our literacy instruction is designed to center, affirm, support, and challenge each learner while building a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

We are committed to cultivating and sustaining:

  • A guaranteed and viable curriculum that reflects research-based practices and aligns with the Common Core State Standards

  • Instruction that is equitable, culturally affirming, and universally designed to meet the diverse needs of all students

  • Engaging and high-quality resources and tools that inspire curiosity, joy, and confidence in literacy learning

  • Active and purposeful instruction that includes appropriate linguistic and academic supports

Through a targeted, multi-tiered system of instruction, intervention, and assessment, we ensure that every student receives the support they need to thrive. Our vision is for all students to develop the literacy skills that empower them to access knowledge, express ideas, and engage fully in their communities and the world.
