Differentiated, Small Group Instruction

What is Differentiated, Small Group Instruction?

Differentiated, Small Group Instruction is when the teacher works with small groups of students and tailors the instruction to what they need most.
  • Each Group works on targeted activities - like sounding out words, practicing fluency, building vocabulary or digging deeper into comprehension.
  • Groups are flexible, so as children grow, they can move to a different group that matches their progress.
  • While the teacher works with one group, the other students are engaged in meaningful reading or writing activities.
