What is Heggerty?

Heggerty Phonemic Awareness is a daily program teachers use to help young children hear and play with the sounds in words - a critical skill for learning to read and spell.
  • Daily instruction is short - only 10 minutes and includes activities like:
  • Listening for beginning, middle and ending sounds in words
  • Breaking words into their individual sounds
  • Putting sounds together to make words
  • Changing sounds to make new words ("If we change the /m/ in 'map' to /t/, what's the new word?")
