World Languages

The goal of the Ann Arbor Public Schools World Languages program is to prepare all students to be linguistically and culturally competent in languages other than English.  Ann Arbor Public Schools is proud to offer 7 languages including:  American Sign Language, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Latin, and Spanish.   In Ann Arbor, we believe the ability to communicate in a culturally appropriate manner with speakers of other languages is a key to success in the increasingly diverse global community of the 21st century. As students develop proficiency in world languages and, a parallel appreciation of the underlying values and beliefs of other cultures, they develop the understandings and skills that are essential to meaningful communication around the world.

Elementary World Languages

  • Our International Baccalaureate elementary schools in Ann Arbor offer the Spanish language to our students beginning in the 2nd grade as part of the Language Acquisition Primary Years Programme (PYP).
